Saying The Things We All Want To Say, But Don’t

“…we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.”

BOIn short, he said we shouldn’t compromise our ideals to protect our safety. Sounds wonderful, I can still hear the “oohs and ahhs” of all the vapid listeners that were so enraptured by the rhetoric that they failed to question the truth of the statement.

How many of you think that as Americans we don’t seem to have much of a problem abandoning our ideals, let alone merely compromising them when it comes to safety? Freedom you say? We would never abandon freedom? It’s a good bet that America has more laws on the books abridging freedom than any other nation on earth. Privacy you say? We value our privacy. Which is why we’re stringing cameras up to every lampost to catch speeding motorists and drivers that run red lights.

Congratulations Obama, you struck a chord with your speech. But what happens when the U.S. is attacked again?
